What is the history of the building?
The Greek Revival home was commissioned in 1847 by merchant Thomas W. O'Brion and later became home to Albert S. Rines. In the late 1920s it became the R.J. Duddy Funeral Home, serving Portland families for nearly a century before beginning its next chapter as The Delphian.
Why is it called The Delphian?
The name is inspired by the Delphian Club, an early nineteenth-century literary society co-founded by Portland writer and social reformer John Neal, who lived across State Street.
